There is So Much to Learn

Today is my daughter’s birthday. After eating our fill of snacks earlier, we decided to take a walk in the woods.

I brought my phone, and although I didn’t have any service, I snapped pictures of plants I hoped to identify later. One of the most interesting was the Mayapple, which resided close to the rear of our property.

We listened as Barred Owls called back and forth to one another. Finally, we made our way back home as the sun sank lower in the sky.

More often than not, I feel such a holy presence in the forest. When I pay attention, I can feel it.

Nature is life.

I want to love and care for it. I want to learn the names of all the things, and research how to keep them safe. I sometimes feel discouraged, because it seems like so much to learn. But I think a simple willingness to try is all that is required on our part.

An open heart and mind can work wonders on both a practical and spiritual level.

I’m cracking open books, and ordering native plants. I’m studying my yard and pulling out invasive species. It is a process, but I believe every little bit helps. A little bit here and there can really make a difference.
