A new day has dawned, and I’m sitting on my couch surrounded by a pile of books. Over the past month or so, it has grown quite large! This is my special spot where I study and learn about so many different things pertaining to faith, religion, and so much more.
About one month ago, I reread The Surrender Experiment by Michael Singer. I believe I’ll read this book once a year for the foreseeable future. It always encourages me to surrender to whatever life throws at me. To ride the wave and go with the flow.
By nature, I’m a very anxious person (but I’m working on it!), and my nervous system tends to go into overdrive whenever I’m faced with something that I consider to be an obstacle. This isn’t a fun way to live, let me tell you. Especially when I’m faced with something “bad” that is totally out of my control to change.
But really, what is “bad” anyhow? Doesn’t our idea of “bad” come from comparing what we consider to be “good”? Would there be any “bad” days if we didn’t have “good” days to compare them to?
Wouldn’t it be better to willingly surrender and accept life as it comes, believing that whatever may happen is for our ultimate good? I surely think so. I also think it’s probably much better on both our minds and bodies to hold onto life loosely, knowing that whatever is here today may be gone tomorrow.
So yes, rereading The Surrender Experiment was definitely a good choice for me.
Now I’m onto reading Zen Mind, Beginner’s Mind by Shunryu Suzuki, Autobiography of a Yogi by Yogananda, and Steven Mitchell’s version of the Bhagavad Gita. Next up will be Walden by Henry David Thoreau.
Gosh, I’m grateful to have so much knowledge at my fingertips. Two more books will be arriving today for me to dive into soon, too.
I hope your book pile is high if you enjoy reading, too!
