A Quiet Mind and Open Heart

Through the years, I’ve encountered some pretty big problems. In fact, I would guess that most of us have.

Life can be very unpredictable, and it feels difficult when we experience the least expected. Sometimes, a person close to us may decide to distance themselves from us. Or death may come when we least expect it.

Sometimes our finances don’t stretch as far as we’d like them to, or our past actions create problems that are difficult to tackle.

When these things happen, it can feel like a weight has been strapped to our chest. For the longest time, I tried to solve life’s problems by digging in my heels, and trying to right the ship myself.

But unfortunately (or fortunately), I’ve learned that often this doesn’t work. Life is usually trying to teach us something through our “problems,” and the best way to learn our lesson is to let go. Surrender. And then look at life with a quiet mind and open heart, which allows us to flow through the difficulty much more easily.

I think oftentimes, we label our experiences as problematic, when somehow and in some way, they are life giving.

I believe that life, or God if you will, has my back. That everything I experience has a purpose that will somehow benefit both me and those around me.

When I have this attitude, I can participate in life with a quiet mind and open heart. I can let life flow both around me and through me without giving any resistance.

Often, it’s the resistance that makes life feel so hard, not the problem. Once we realize that we are creating the blockage in our mind, and we let our negative thoughts and actions go, then life suddenly feels so much easier.

It’s like taking a big gulp of fresh air after holding our breath.

While life is meant to teach us lessons, it doesn’t have to feel hard. A good attitude can help us keep a peaceful mind and heart no matter what we may face.
