Most of us crave a spiritual practice.
We feel it deeply. This is an example of what I try to do on a daily basis to connect with the “Source” which is within me as well as everything else. Take as many or as little of these suggestions as you’d like and run with them!
Embrace Solitude and/or Silence
Inside of us, most of us have an inner voice. I’ve found that the best way to connect with this part of myself is in silence. Let our brains quiet down, and listen to what is underneath our minds. To me, this is one way to connect with the divine reality which I call God.
Meditate or Pray, and Journal
Meditating and contemplative prayer are wonderful tools for us to use to connect with the divine. In general, my prayers are ones of gratitude. The acts of prayer and meditation are tools that can bring me focus and clarity.
I found this simple prayer or meditation helpful in the book Divine Sparks by Starr Regan DiCiuricio:
May I move in this world with wisdom and love.
May I recognize and correct any falseness within.
May I be true to my Divine nature.
Journaling is also a daily habit which has helped me to connect with the Divine. I might write and reflect about what happened during the day, or perhaps I will copy quotes that have helped me feel in tune with the world and my purpose.
Read Uplifting Material
There are many, many different books and articles to be read which help our spirituality. I would recommend reading books by wisdom teachers around the world, if they resonate with you. I have started books, only to discard them by page ten. Our time is important, and we should honor it by reading what speaks encouragement into our lives.
Embrace a Life of Gratitude
Gratitude is a beautiful practice that we should all try to implement in our lives. If you think about it, everyday and everything is a miracle. This doesn’t need to be difficult…an internal “thank you” will suffice. Every time I walk into a new environment, I try to think of at least a couple of things I’m thankful for within it.
Spend Lots of Time Outdoors
Nature is a part of us, and we are a part of nature. Spending time outdoors makes us feel connected and whole. Purposely going outside will help us be more in tune with our spiritual self. I celebrate natural things such as solstices, equinoxes, and full moons.
Care for Yourself, Others, and Nature
Caring for these things will create a life of joy. A life of purpose. Remember that when one of us succeeds, we all do. When one of us suffers, we all do as well. Keeping this perspective will help us to create a world with less suffering.
Live in the Present Moment
All we have is the present moment. The past is gone, the future is yet to come. When we realize this and embrace it, our life comes alive. Taste your food. Feel the rain. Smell the flower. Avoid distractions and worry. Your life is good, and purposeful.
“Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.”
— Carl Jung
